Knife Deep Dive: SOG Flash AT

An icon among everyday knives, the original Flash from SOG was known for its low weight, lightning-fast deployment and superior cutting power. It goes without saying that these and other features that made the original Flash as popular as it was have been retained in SOG's freshly redesigned Flash AT assisted opening knife and feature prominently along with upgrades in construction, materials and ease of operation. The most notable upgrades include SOG's innovative new AT-XR lock, which combines strength with easy-to-use two-hand operation, a redesigned safety located on the back of the handle, enabling intuitive and positive operation , and a cryogenically heat-treated D2 blade steel.

The Flash AT's handle shells are made from glass-reinforced nylon and have a pattern of ridges that, along with a shallow finger groove on the front of the handle and jimping on the back of the blade, provide a positive grip for either hand, with or without without gloves. A closer inspection of the handle reveals its rugged, screw-together construction with all-steel liners and a reversible deep pocket clip, allowing the Flash AT to be carried discreetly yet securely in a pocket.

Shifting our focus to the blade, the first thing that catches the eye is the robust sabergrind, which combines cutting performance with strength. The blade opens via SOG's assisted opening mechanism that allows for flawless and fast implementation with a touch of the ambidextrous thumb studs. All in all, the new Flash AT is a worthy addition to SOG's line-up of innovative and reliable tools. Available in various combinations of handle colors and blade finishes, we are confident that the Flash AT will be a reliable everyday companion.
